Chinatown Movies
Saw Year of the Dragon again for the first time in ages, and whoa, it was just like I remember but more so, that is, a very not good movie, but the atmospheric Chinatown sets are worthy of von Sternberg. John Lone is fire, as are Victor Wong and the other Chinatown elders.
Big Trouble in Little China: impeccable. Career highs not just for Hong, Dun, and Wong, but Russell, Cattrall (saw her and I was 16 again), and Carpenter. Correct to set this in San Francisco Chinatown, totally accurate depiction. Year of the Dragon woulda worked if it were SF instead of NYC.
